ABE-DUA soap is a natural and organic soap made from ingredients such as coconut oil, shea butter, palm kernel oil, and potash. It is designed to provide an uplifting and invigorating skin experience. The soap is 100% vegan and organic, and it can be used for cleansing the body as well as washing hair. Additionally, it is suitable for skin care and can help prevent sunburn. The soap is inspired by the traditional Kente fabric of West Africa, adding a bit of magic to your daily routine.
Product Story The base of an authentic black soap is pot ash made of dried and roasted cocoa pods (the shell that covers cocoa seeds) that has high caustic properties.
The other ingredients include shea butter, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, or honey which are blended, heated and mixed with potash. Traditionally, the mix is hand-stirred by local women for about 24 hours as the soap solidifies and grows. Then, the soap is cut into bars and left to cure for around 2 weeks.
Abe Dua means “palm tree.” It is a symbol of wealth, resourcefulness, and self-sufficiency.
The Abe Dua symbol depicts a palm tree. The palm tree represents resourcefulness, wealth, and self-sufficiency. This is due to the sheer number of practical uses one can find for products made from the palm tree’s wood, oil and fruit.
Our palm kernel oil is used in unrefined, raw form and
is sourced from small-scale growers which ensures its
production is not harmful to the environment.
Extracted from shea trees growing in the savannah, shea butter is one of Ghana’s most precious natural resources.
This 100% natural oil is unrefined and raw. It is renowned for its versatility and efficacy when used in the context of only natural ingredients.
This is our sustainable compounds that replaces caustic soda in holding the soap together. Our potash is extracted from cocoa pods that allows us to recycle natural waste.
Our raw honey increases soap’s natural lathering. It is made with a nectar collected from various flowers by bees living freely in Ghanaian rainforests.
The visual concept derives from a traditional Ghanian Kente Cloth. Historically, it was worn by royal family members but today it’s worn all over the country. One can also find Kente is Asante temples where it symbolizes the spiritual strength of the Gods. Each pattern has its own name given by the weaver. But most importantly, it’s more than a fabric. It’s a cultural representation of West African history, philosophy and religion. By using this reference, we aim to honor the Ghanaian heritage and show it to the world through an authentic product that represents the region.
